Any person or organization can nominate a child for assessment by the expert committee . To nominate a child, a nomination form (2026 Nominations are closed) must be completed.

  • A child older than 12 and younger than 18; (the child may not be older than 17 at the time of nomination)
  • From all corners of the world;
  • The child must have a clear history of standing up and fighting for their own rights and those of other children. It is important that the child has an active approach to achieving this goal, which has led to a concrete result;
  • Ability to travel abroad and feel comfortable communicating with other people;
  • The child agrees to be nominated for the International Children’s Peace Prize.

NB. A group of children may be nominated, provided that each individual in the group has made a demonstrable effort and co-initiated activities that have led to an exceptional difference for children’s rights and the position of vulnerable children worldwide (organizations as a whole are not taken into consideration).

Can I nominate a child who was nominated previously? 

Yes, you may nominate a child who was previously nominated.  

Can I nominate myself? 

No, all nominations must be submitted by an adult with the consent of the nominated child.  

I work with a group of interesting children. Can I nominate the whole group together? 

Yes, provided that every child in the group made a provable effort and co-initiated the activities that resulted in an exceptional difference for the rights of the child. Please ensure that every member in the group has contributed significantly to the changemaking actions/activities. 

What is the role of the nominating organization/individual? 

The role of the nominator is as follows: 

  • Responsible for informing the child and receiving their consent for the nomination and providing the necessary information to KidsRights to complete the nomination.  
  • If shortlisted for the International Children’s Peace Prize, the nominator also has the responsibility to guide and assist the child in dealing with (media) attention for their story.  
  • The nominator may also be required to help with the country visit by KidsRights and for the development of their life story. 

How is the winner of the International Children’s Peace Prize selected? 

Each year the International Children’s Peace Prize winner is selected from nominations received from all over the world. An Expert Committee assesses the nominees’ work and impact in the field of children’s rights. The shortlisted nominees are reviewed and investigated by KidsRights. A local visit to a nominee may also be part of the review process. After all the reviews, the Expert Committee selects the winner of the International Children’s Peace Prize.
